1- What is the medium of education and instruction in universities in Turkey?
The medium of instruction at universities in Turkey is both Turkish and English. In addition,
you can take extra courses such as French, German, and Spanish.
2- What is the duration of undergraduate and graduate programs?
The duration of undergraduate programs is 4 years; 2 years with thesis and 1.5 years
without thesis for graduate programs.
3. What are the conditions for university education in Turkey?
High school seniors or graduates with the conditions below:
-International students,
-Students who are Turkish citizens by birth and were allowed to renounce their Turkish
citizenship by the Ministry of Interior (having a Certificate of Recognition of the Rights
Acquired from the Turkish Citizenship Law),
-Young children who are Turkish citizens by birth and who are allowed to renounce their
Turkish citizenship by the Ministry of Interior (having a Certificate of Recognition of the
Rights Acquired from the Turkish Citizenship Law),
-Foreigners after acquiring citizenship of the Republic of Turkey, or dual citizenship in this
case,
-Those who are Turkish citizens who completed their secondary education abroad before the
date 01/02/2013 and completed the last 3 years of their secondary education in a foreign
country excluding the TRNC,
-Those who are Turkish citizens who started secondary education abroad after 01/02/2013
and completed their secondary education in a foreign country other than the TRNC,
-Those who completed their secondary education (high school) in Turkish schools of MEB in
a foreign country except TRNC,
-Those who are TRNC citizens, those who reside in TRNC and have completed secondary
education in TRNC and have GCE AL exam results,
Candidates whose applications will not be considered:
-Those who are Turkish citizens and have completed all of their secondary education in
Turkey or the TRNC,
-Candidates of TRNC nationality (excluding the candidates mentioned above),
-Those who are dual nationals and their first nationality is the Republic of Turkey (except for
the candidates mentioned above),
-Dual nationals, one of which is TRNC (except for the candidates mentioned above),
-Citizens of the Republic of Turkey or dual nationals whose first nationality was the Republic
of Turkey by birth, who studied at schools within the body of embassies in Turkey and
foreign high schools
4. What are the documents required for international students?
In general, the steps and prerequisites for applying to a university in Turkey are the same as
in other countries. It would be best to examine the websites of universities, as each
university will have its own admission requirements. However, below are the basic
documents you need to follow during the application process.
You need to upload the required documents by clicking on the application link for
international students of your preferred university. While the required documents may vary
for each university, the main required documents are as follows:

5. What are the tuition fees for international students?
For detailed information about universities and their fees, you can click on the relevant web

6- How many days after I have applied to the university will I receive my acceptance letter?
International students will receive all acceptance letters via email. The positive or negative
feedback of your application will be sent to your e-mail address. Your offer letter regarding
the education and scholarship rate will be prepared and sent to you within 3 days at the
latest.
7. What is the equivalence certificate?
It certifies that the education you have taken is equivalent to the education in Turkey. You
cannot enroll in a university in Turkey without the certificate of equivalence.
8. Where can I get the Equivalency Certificate?
To get the equivalence certificate, you must first make an appointment via the link below. You
must submit the requested documents to the Provincial Directorate of National Education on
your appointment date and time.

9. How can international students get residence permits?
International students who want to study in Turkey, after registering at the university, must
apply at https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/ for a residence permit within their valid visa due date.
10. What are the documents required for a residence permit application?
Passport copy, 4 passport photos,
Student certificate, Copy of Online Application
Documents for Health Insurance, Address information
Residence permit card fee fee (Residence Permit Card fee 'Original Invoice' (The fee must
be paid by the student to the Tax Office-)
Income Statement Document (To be given by the University)

11. In how many days will the residence permit be finalized?
Your residence will reach you within 90 days at the latest after you apply.
12. What is the deadline for applying as an international student in Turkey?
While the academic year start date may vary from university to university, the fall semester
usually starts in September in Turkey. Therefore, the application deadline is the end of
August.
13. How is the registration procedure ?
The first step to apply is to verify the eligibility of your documents by contacting us on our
website. Afterwards, you can apply through the Universities in Istanbul Apply tab. After the
initial application, if your documents are found suitable, a conditional letter will be sent to
you. The conditional letter is a document issued to provide information about the terms and
conditions required for the completion of university registration and does not replace the
official acceptance document. If you accept the terms and conditions stated on the
conditional document, you can make your deposit payment to receive your acceptance letter.
The official acceptance letter is the official indication that shows you have been accepted by
the university. After this step, you have to pay the remaining tuition fee and complete your
registration by entering the country and submitting your documents to your school's
International Office.
14- How can I handle accommodation and dormitory procedures?

15- I do not want to take English preparatory education, what should I do?
You can check the website of the university you are applying for the requirements to be
exempted from the preparation year.
16. How do I get a Student Akbili (Istanbul Card)?
You need to use IstanbulKart to benefit from all public transportation vehicles with a discount
special for students in Istanbul, with the exception of "dolmus" and "minibuses", which
accept only cash. In order to get your IstanbulKart, you must go to the card application
centers located in different parts of the city and submit the following documents.

17. Is a visa required?

18. Who can help me with visa procedures?
Visa procedures are the responsibility of the candidates. It is very important that the
documents requested by the Turkish consulate/embassy of the home country should be
prepared completely during the visa application process.
19. How can I get a SimCard when I come to Turkey?
For international students, the most essential requirement to be able to get a Turkish phone
line is the passport. As long as they have their passports, students can go to Turkcell,
Vodafone or Türk Telekom and buy a new line.
20. How can I open a bank account?
The documents required to open a bank account in Turkey are as follows:
Original Passport (bank will make a photocopy of it)
Signature Document Form
Address proof
Before opening a bank account in Turkey for international students, most banks require a
Turkish mobile number to send a text message for confirmation. Most of the websites of
banks in Turkey are in English and some can be helpful in Arabic.
21. I lost my ID card, what should I do?
In such cases, you must first go to the nearest police station in your district and get a report
on the matter. After this process, you can go to the immigration office and reissue your
residence permit card with the following documents:
Loss report from the police station
domicile certificate
Photocopy of the passaport
2 photos
Half of the card fee
22. What is a recognition certificate?
Recognition means that the programs of a higher education institution providing education
and training abroad, from which you have received a diploma, are authorized to award
academic degrees by YÖK.
23. How can I get a recognition certificate?
